Joe Schilling defeats Karpet Karpetyan by points at “Battle of the Belts”

MarcusSchillingBITD55 300x199 Joe Schilling defeats Karpet Karpetyan by points at Battle of the BeltsJoe Schilling defeated Karpet Karpetyan by decision winning the WBC interim Light Heavy title for the second time. He came out wearing the shorts and robe for the promotion, and not his signature orange jump suit. He looked like he was sticking to a game plan, and looked methodical in the ring.

He never really hurt Karpetyan and seemed to gas out a little bit in the third and fourth round, but he dominated the fight for the most part being the aggressor of the two. “Battle of the Belts” which took place Saturday June 9th, at the Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani in Bangkok had several WBC World Title Fights. Fabio Pinca, Saketdao, Kem Sitsongpeenong, all came out victorious.

Levin underwent arthroscopy surgery on his left knee joint on 19 May and it was hoped that he would have a full recovery of the medial meniscus resection. While the post operative period showed no complications — after further consultations with his surgeon, management, promoter BEC Tero and the WBC — it was decided that for safety reasons Levin be withdrawn from his title defense. “individuals who make excuses for their loses do not possess a winning mentality,” Says Bad Bwoy

Simon Marcus’s reaction to the crowd booing at “Battle in the Desert 5″

On May 12, 2012 Lion Fight Promotions will be hosting the rematch between Joe “Stich em up” Schilling, & Simon “Bad Bwoy” Marcus at “Lion Fight Muay Thai V1.” The first fight ended in controversy when Schilling filed an appeal with the Nevada State Athletic Comission for an illegal trip which the comission denied. There was plenty of controversy prior to that with trash talk between the two, and a winner takes all purse being put in place. Let’s just say these two guys wont be going out for ice cream together anytime soon.

The WBC Light Heavyweight interim title will be on the line for the rematch, and the winner will have a chance to fight Artem Levin for the World Title at “Battle for the Belts” on June 9th, 2012, at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. The event is scheduled to have seven WBC Muay Thai world title fights. I asked Simon Marcus to share some of his thoughts on the appeal, the pressure on Schilling to win this fight, & his recent time spent fighting in Thailand.

Total Muay Thai: How was your time fighting in Thailand recently? How was your overall general experience?

Simon Marcus: The time I spent in Thailand was a great experience. Getting there and training for a few days was challenging with the sudden change of climate and the blistering heat. It was also an honour to fight for my first pro world title in Thailand against a legendary Thai fighter. As for the fight it was a good challenge and I enjoyed trading techniques with another Thai fighter. This was an important fight for me and I am proud to have reached one of the goals I set out to accomplish when I first started fighting which is to be World Champion.

Total Muay Thai: What did Joe Schilling say to you at the weigh in when the two of you were going back, and forth?

Simon Marcus: To be honest I don’t even remember what he was saying. I wasn’t really paying attention to his words.

Total Muay Thai: Do you think there would be another winner takes all, and if so would you do it?

Right After Simon Marcus knocked down Joe Schilling

Simon Marcus: No I don’t think there will be another winner takes all because this time we will be fighting for the WBC interim world tiltle. Also for Joe to go home with one dollar twice in a row would not be fair to him and his family. But if the challenge was made, yes I would accept.

Total Muay Thai: What did you think of Schilling’s strikes & strength within the clinch? Is he one of the strongest opponents you’ve faced?

Simon Marcus: When I fought Joe he did not throw or land any strikes in the clinch. He didn’t seem to be too strong in my opinion. He was pushing my head back but it was not doing any damage to me so It didn’t really bother me at all. No, Joe is not one of the strongest opponents I’ve faced. I have fought against more than a few fighters that were 30 to 60 pounds heavier than me and they were stronger by far.

Total Muay Thai: What did you think, when you heard that Joe Schilling had filed an appeal on your first fight with him?

Simon Marcus: When I heard this I thought two things. That Schilling and his camp must really not know and understand the rules in Muay Thai. Also that Joe is not the kind of fighter I am and or the kind I respect. For a fighter it doesn’t matter how you lose or get knocked out. You take responsibility for allowing it to happen and train ten times harder for your next fight. In my opinion individuals who make excuses for their loses do not possess a winning mentality.

Total Muay Thai: Do you think he had a chance to get the fight overturned to a no contest?

Simon Marcus: No, I believed the Nevada State Athletic Commission would make the correct decision and would not overturn the fight.

Total Muay Thai: Do you think there is a lot of pressure RIDING on Joe Schilling right now?

Simon Marcus: One would think so but I’m not sure, that all depends on his mind state and I’m not concerned with that at all.

Total Muay Thai: Who would win if Joe Schilling fought Artem Levin? What would be the outcome?

Simon Marcus: I think Artem would win decisively. I’m not sure how but Artem is a much more skilled fighter than Joe.

Lion Fight Muay Thai VI scheduled for May 12th, at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV

Off the heels of their winner-take-all showdown that began with fireworks and ended in controversy, WBC Light Heavyweight (175 pounds) Champion Joe “Stitch ‘Em Up” Schilling (12–2, 10 KO’s) of Los Angeles, Calif. and undefeated, bitter rival Simon Marcus (23–0, 18 KO’s) of Toronto, Ontario Canada.

They have agreed to square off in a rematch in the main event of the next Lion Fight WBC championship full-rules Muay Thai event at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev. on Saturday, May 12.

I am really looking forward to the rematch. I think the first fight didn’t prove anything about who the better fighter is,” said Schilling. “I was obviously knocked out after Simon landed on my head and anything that happened after that was out of my control. Even after I was basically defenselessly standing there, Simon still couldn’t knock me out. I am very focused and motivated for the rematch.”

During their initial encounter at The Joint on Feb. 25, Schilling came out of the gates swinging, looking to score an early KO on Marcus. Poised and composed, Marcus weathered the storm for the most part and countered Schilling’s offense.

MarcusSchillingBITD512thumbnail Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the Rematch between Joe Schilling & Simon MarcusWhile the two were engaged in a clinch in the first round, Marcus executed a throw that sent both fighters to the canvas.

Schilling landed head-first, on his back, and was badly hurt from the weight of Marcus crashing down on him.

Schilling slowly made it to his feet and, after the fight resumed, Marcus pounced on his opponent and sent Schilling to the mat once again. Using sheer willpower, Schilling beat the 10 count, but the referee, seeing Schilling unfit to continue, stopped the contest, giving Marcus the TKO victory and both fighters’ purses.

Instant replay showed that Marcus initiated the throw at the ankle line, with one of his feet behind Schilling, a technique that some governing bodies deem illegal under Muay Thai rules (Only throws initiated at the waist line and above are legal). The referee, however, determined that there was no rules infraction.

Anybody who understands the sport of Muay Thai knows that it was a legal sweep because when I stepped, I did not use my heel to hook his leg. I threw him over my knee and he pulled me down and I landed on top of him,” explained Marcus. “If you pull somebody on top of you, you’ve got to defend yourself. I have no problems fighting Joe again, though. He wanted a rematch and it’s going to happen.”

Because of the unorthodox and inconclusive manner in which the fight unfolded, it’s only fair to both fighters as well as the fans that an immediate rematch take place,” said Lion Fight Promotions CEO Scott Kent.

This rematch between Joe and Simon will be one of the biggest, if not the biggest Muay Thai fight in history on American soil,” Kent continued. The skill and talent of the two fighters combined with the hostility between Joe and Simon make this one of the most anticipated Muay Thai fights of all-time in North America.”

Additional bouts for Lion Fight Muay Thai VI: Schilling vs. Marcus II, will be announced soon.

Simon Marcus continues down the War Path to make his mark in Thai Boxing

He defeats Kaoklai & wins the WPMF World Title

marcus Simon Marcus continues down the War Path to make his mark in Thai BoxingStill undefeated, Simon Marcus continues his path of destruction to prove he is the best 175 lbs Thai Boxer in the world. In February he defeated Joe Schilling by a TKO in Round One, & now has defeated a legend in Kaoklai by a unanimous decision win to capture the WPMF title. The victory over Kaoklai took place in Bangkok March 16th, 2012 at the Central World for National Muaythai Day today.

Before Simon gets a shot at Artem Levin for his WBC World Light Heavyweight Title he will meet Joe Schilling in a rematch at Lion Fight Promotions “Battle in the Desert 6″ taking place May 12th, 2012 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

There was much excitement, and anticipation for Simon Marcus & Joe Schilling’s first bout at “Battle in the Desert 5″ with all the online banter, and trash talk going back and forth between the two.

marcusschillingbitd51 Simon Marcus continues down the War Path to make his mark in Thai BoxingSimon’s TKO victory over Joe Schilling was a controversial one because Schilling claims Simon used an illegal throw that sent Schilling, & Marcus crashing to the canvas. Schilling hit his head on the canvas which rocked him pretty hard. He got up from it groggy, and Simon finished him off.

After the fight Joe Schilling filed an appeal with the Nevada State Athletic Commission to rule the fight a no contest, but it was rejected by the commission. Their rematch will be for Schilling’s WBC interim title. Their first fight was a winner takes all, and Simon Marcus went home with both his fight purse, and Joe Schillings. There has been no trash talk as of yet.

With his defeat over Joe Schilling, Simon became the first in line to fight Artem Levin for his WBC World Light Heavyweight Title. Simon Marcus is scheduled to fight Artem Levin on a huge card in Thailand at the Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani, on June 9th. This event will make history with a total of seven WBC Muay Thai world title fights in total. Saenchai Sor Kingstar (diamond belt champion super-lightweight) and Thai Fight superstar Kem Sitpongseenong (super-welterweight) are scheduled to be on the card as well. If Marcus beats Artem Levin he will be recognized by many as the best 175 lbs. Muay Thai fighter on the planet.
